Do you accept beginners?
Yes. While our core training program is designed for dancers committed to serious, professional-level study, we also offer Pre-Ballet, Adult Ballet, and Open Ballet classes that are open to beginners of all ages and abilities.

What is the Vaganova method?
The Vaganova method is a world-renowned system of classical ballet training developed in Russia. It emphasizes clean technique, artistry, musicality, and strength, preparing dancers for both professional careers and lifelong appreciation of ballet.

How do I receive program details and tuition information?
Program details for our professional training levels are shared by request only. Families interested in Pre-Ballet, Adult Ballet, or Open Ballet can inquire directly, while dancers pursuing more advanced study will be guided through an evaluation and placement process.

How do I register for classes?
Please email us directly to request registration information. This ensures that each dancer is placed in the appropriate level and program for their needs and goals.

What age do dancers start training at VAB?
• Pre-Ballet begins as early as age 4.
• Formal ballet training in the graded Vaganova program typically begins around ages 6–8.
• We also offer Adult Ballet for dancers returning to training or starting later in life.

Do you offer performance opportunities?
Yes. All enrolled dancers participate in our annual gala performance. Advanced students also perform in outreach events, competitions, and special community presentations throughout the year.

Do you participate in competitions?
Yes. Our pre-professional dancers regularly compete in Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), Universal Ballet Competition (UBC), and other national and international events.

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
Yes. As a nonprofit academy, we provide scholarships and tuition assistance when possible. Since 2020, we’ve awarded over $50,000 in scholarships to support our students.

Do students take exams?
Yes. At VAB, exams are an important part of our training. Dancers in Pre-Ballet through Advanced levels participate in annual exams based on the Vaganova method. Exams give students clear goals, measurable progress, and valuable experience performing under evaluation.

How are students placed into levels?
Dancers are evaluated through class observation or private assessment to ensure proper placement for safety, technique, and growth. Placement is based on ability & availability, not just age.

Can my child skip levels if they are talented?
Advancement is earned through consistency, technique, artistry, and readiness. While talent is important, safe progression in the Vaganova method cannot be rushed.

What’s the difference between Open Ballet, Pre-Ballet, and the professional track?
• Pre-Ballet introduces children ages 4–7 to musicality, movement, and discipline.
• Open Ballet & Adult Ballet are community classes open to all levels.
• The Professional Track is designed for dancers pursuing serious training, competitions, or careers in ballet.

Can dancers take other styles (jazz, contemporary, etc.)?
Yes. Contemporary and conditioning are offered at certain levels, and students may pursue other styles outside the academy as long as it does not interfere with their VAB training.

When does the training season begin and end?
The season typically runs from September through June, with mid-year & final exams, competitions, and a gala performance at the end of the season.

Can students join mid-season?
New students may join mid-season with faculty approval, depending on level and availability.

What is your attendance policy?
Consistent attendance is required to ensure steady progress. Excessive absences may impact performance eligibility or advancement. Students who are unable to commit fully to the program are encouraged to attend OPEN classes at VAB.

Are students required to perform?
All students participate in the annual gala performance. Intermediate & Advanced dancers may also be selected to perform in outreach events and competitions, but is not required.

What competitions do your students attend?
Our dancers participate in YAGP, UBC, ADC-IBC, and other major competitions. Participation is by invitation and faculty approval.

Are there extra fees for performances and competitions?
Yes. Performance and competition fees are separate from tuition. Details are provided in advance to families.

Are exams mandatory?
Yes, for all professional track students. Exams are a required part of training, helping dancers set goals and progress safely through levels.

Can parents watch classes?
Parents may observe through lobby windows, but are only permitted to remain in the lobby area if they are quiet and respectful to the ongoing classes. Pre-Ballet parents are permitted to stay on site during their students class. We encourage parents to watch class during observation days for student exams.

What should dancers wear to class?
VAB follows a strict uniform dress code to maintain professionalism and discipline in training. As a Nikolay Partner School, all uniforms and shoes are exclusively Nikolay brand to ensure the highest quality, consistency, and support for our dancers.
• Hair: Must be neatly secured in a classical bun for all classes.
Uniforms may be ordered directly through Nikolay Orlando Website or our authorized Nikolay supplier TightSpot Dancerwear to ensure correct fit and compliance with academy standards.

Is there parking available?
Yes. On-site parking is available for families and visitors.

Where are classes held?
Our studio is located at 6229 National Pike E, Grindstone, PA 15442.

Do you offer community classes?
Yes. In addition to our professional program, we host free community ballet classes, outreach performances, and adult ballet classes throughout the year.

Do your dancers perform outside the theater?
Yes. Students participate in outreach performances at nursing homes, community centers, and local events to share ballet with the community.
